    A-1 Playfair House is a hostel at 8 Blenheim Place, Royal Terrace, Edinburgh. It is a historic town house built in 1821 in the New Town Preservation area.

    Abbey Bank is a bed and breakfast guest house in Kelso, Abbeybank, in a fine old Georgian Townhouse, built in 1815, 300 yards from the River Tweed.

    Aberdour Hotel, Fife is a family-run Hotel situated in one of Fife's picturesque coastal villages. It specialises in traditional cooking and real ales. In the days before railways and the motor car, it was a staging-post for stage coaches and so has a courtyard and stable block. Although the buildings date back to the 17th century, all the recently refurbished sixteen bedrooms have ensuite facilities.

    Airds Hotel, Port Appin, Argyll (approximately 20 miles north of Oban and 27 miles south of Fort William) is a family run, luxury 4-star hotel and gourmet restaurant (awarded three Rosettes by the AA and the head chef has won Best Gourmet Menu over £50 at The Scottish Chef Awards 2006). There are special themed weekends and culinary experiences and painting holidays. There are twelve bedrooms, all of which are individually decorated with designer fabrics and wallpapers and flat screen televisions with satellite channels and DVD players are a feature of all bedrooms.     Albany Hotel in the heart of historic St Andrews, close to St Andrews Castle and the Cathedral, is in an elegant Georgian terraced house dating from around 1795. There is a range of single, double and family accommodation.

    Allison House Hotel, Edinburgh is a traditional 3-star, 23 en-suite bedroom budget hotel in Edinburgh in a central location.     Allt-nan-Ros Hotel has "Four Stars" from the Scottish Tourist Board. The Gaelic name of the hotel means "Burn of the Roses" and is named after the stream which flows through the gardens to Loch Linnhe.

    Almond Bungalow is two miles to the west of Central Edinburgh and provides short or longer term self-catering accommodation. The fully equipped kitchen has cooker with hob, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and all modern conveniences. There are several suites within the bungalow.     Altassmore Holiday Cottages in Sutherland have a garden, courtyard, parking and barbecue area and each has a small patio and garden furniture. One cottage is adapted for wheelchair access.     Altdarroch Farm Cottages Kinlocheil, By Fort William are self-catering cottages set above beautiful Loch Eil on Scotland's famous "Road to the Isles", which runs between Fort William and Mallaig. The three cottages are located within easy reach of the town of Fort William and, in the other direction, Glenfinnan.

    Am Bothan is a self-catering cottage, in Naast, Ross-shire, on the western shore of Loch Ewe, three miles north of Poolewe. This site is linked to a charming, idyllic Short Story on Scotland.

    Ardachaidh is a 3-star Bed and Breakfast in a comfortable family home in quiet residential area of Portree within easy walking distance to town centre. Each room has colour TV and tea/coffee making facilities.

    Ardanair is a modern self catering bungalow on the shores of Loch Kanaird, 3 miles from Ullapool.     Ardanaiseig Hotel ten miles from Taynuilt on the shores of Loch Awe in the North West Highlands of Scotland, is more of a private home, open to guests who will appreciate sharing the wonderful hospitality, and lingering magical Celtic atmosphere.     Ardgarry Farm, Faichem, Invergarry, Inverness-shire is a small working farm situated in the West Highlands. It offers four styles of accommodation consisting of bed & breakfast, four self-catering log cabins, a self-catering cottage, and camping and caravanning on Faichem Park campsite.

    Self catering property at Ardnacross, is on a 1200 acre farming estate on North East coast of the the Isle of Mull. There are three separate self catering houses of different sizes - the "Farmhouse" sleeps twelve, the "Square" is for up to six people and there is one bedroom in the "Dairy".     Ardoch Cottage is in the charming village of Gartocharn at the souhern end of Loch Lomond and provides award-winning, bed & breakfast accommodation with Four Star Grading from the Scottish Tourist Board. The cottage was originally a toll house on the old military road running between Stirling and Dumbarton Castles and has been restored by the present owners and all three bedrooms have en-suite WC/shower, television and Tea/Coffee making facilities.

    Ardoch Cottage, Orchil Castle, near Braco, Perthshire is a luxury self-catering cottage sleeping 6, in a modern, self-contained wing of this Victorian castle on a beautiful, 35-acre, private estate. There are beautiful views over the Ochil hills and wildlife is abundant, including ospreys which fish on the castle's loch. Nearby is the site of the Ardoch Roman fort and Crieff is not far away.

    Ardtornish Estates is in the south-west corner of the Morvern peninsula on the Sound of Mull and Loch Linnhe, Ardtornish covers approximately 60 square miles of hills, woodland, rivers and lochs. The centre of the estate lies at the head of Loch Aline, a sea loch into which flow the rivers Rannoch and Aline, draining Loch Tearnait, Loch Arienas and the upland glens. Self-catering units range from accommodation in Ardtornish House to the estate cottages. The site is well illustrated and covers Ardtornish Castle, once the seat of the Lords of the Isles.

    Argentine House Hotel, Whiting Bay, Arran will welcome you in English, French, German and Italian. This is a Swiss-owned hotel overlooking Holy Island, the Ayrshire Coast and, of course, the Clyde. It was built in 1904 by a seafaring captain as a quiet retreat from his frequent trips to Argentina.

    Argyll Arms, Bunessan, Isle of Mull, Argyll is right on the waterfront in some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. The hotel lies at the southern point of Mull, close to the Isle of Iona, famous for its beautiful Abbey and links to Saint Columba. The hotel is therefore a particularly ideal place to stay for those wishing to visit Iona.

    Arisaig House Cottages offers a range of luxury self-catering accommodation set in the mature grounds of "Arisaig House", Arisaig, Inverness-shire.

    Arlberg House is a family run guesthouse in the heart of Carnoustie, Angus. It is a recently refurbished Dower House, retaining its original 1834 stained glass panels, mouldings and fireplaces to recreate a lovely Victorian feel, in keeping with its history. They offer a traditional Scottish breakfast made from the finest local produce and evening meals are available on request.

    Assynt House bed and breakfast is in a central but quiet location in a conservation area of Ullapool village in Ross-shire, North West Scotland. They are conveniently placed for the harbour, ferry, pubs and restaurants. The site has some nice pictures of the area.

    Atholl Hotel, Aberdeen is four star hotel in the West End of the Granite City, just minutes from the City Centre. VisitScotland Four Star rating, AA 3 star rating. The hotel offers good facilities, with restaurant, bar and function rooms and High Speed Broadband Internet Access in all 35 bedrooms.

    Atholl Hotel, in the heart of the village of Dunvegan on Skye, is situated on the water's edge of the deep sea Loch Dunvegan, commanding views out to sea across the Minch to the Outer Hebrides. A former Manse, with the old Chapel still in the grounds, the Atholl House Hotel has retained it's original character whilst offering a comfortable base from which to explore the magical 'misty Isle' of Skye.

    Atlantic Guest House Hotel, Renfrew Street, Glasgow has 14 bedrooms, some with en-suite facilities and all have colour television with satellite channels plus free parking for guests staying two or more nights. Traditional Scottish breakfast is served in the hotel's dining room.

    Auchrannie Country House Hotel, Brodick, Isle of Arran was formerly the home of the Dowager Duchess of Hamilton, widow of the Right Honourable Sir William Alexander Louis Stephen Douglas Hamilton, Twelfth Duke of Hamilton and Earl of Arran. In 1990 an additional 16 bedrooms, leisure facilities, bistro and function suite were added. Scottish Tourist Board "five crown highly commended" (at the time of writing, the only one on the Isle of Arran). There are also traditionally built lodges set within Auchrannie's grounds (Scottish Tourist Board graded "5 Crown deluxe"). Auchrannie lodges are affiliated to Resorts Condominiums International (R.C.I.).

    Averon offers bed and breakfast accommodation in central Edinburgh, 10 minutes walk from the castle and Princes Street. Built in 1770 the Averon Guest House is an example of a Georgian town house and retains much of the original character. Most rooms are en-suite and there is free parking in a car park to the rear of the guest house. There is a walled garden and orchard where guests can relax.

    Aviemore Home - are newly built self-catering cottages which are ideal for families or friends holidaying together. Set next to one another in a quiet cul de sac, they are very well furnished and equipped to a high standard with each house boasting its own hot tub.

    Aviemore House is a 5-star, luxury, new-build house with five bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, situated within the Rothiemurchus Estate and just a short walk from the centre of Aviemore in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The house is positioned at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountains on the Cairngorm Ski Road, making it an ideal base for skiing, snowboarding, walking, golf, fishing and other outdoor activities.

    Avonlea provides bed and breakfast accommodation in the quiet outskirts of Portree, Skye, overlook the hills that surround the chief town on the island. Rooms are spacious and all have ensuite facilities. There is one single room, one twin and one double room available from April to October each year.

    Backmarch House is a former Georgian farmhouse built in 1829 which has been renovated to provide quality bed and breakfast accommodation in central Rosyth in Fife (just over the Forth Bridges and not far from Edinburgh and five minutes from the Superfast ferry terminal to Zeebrugge).     Balannan Holiday Cottage, Castle Douglas, is set in the heart of the Dumfries and Galloway countryside on a working beef and sheep farm. The cottage is a single storey building, set in it's own spacious garden, and thirty years ago it would have been the home of the farm tractor man. Scottish Tourist Board 3-star.

    Balcarres in Fort William is set in an elevated position in a quiet cul-de-sac. It commands spectacular views over Loch Linnhe and the Morven hills. The owners were born and bred in Fort William and have that essential local knowledge to be able to answer any questions you may have about the area.

    Balbirnie House Hotel, Markinch, Fife is a listed Grade 'A' Georgian country house dating from 1777 in a 416-acre estate and country park landscaped in the style of Capability Brown which includes specimen trees, a collection of rhododendrons, manicured lawns, picturesque flowering borders and trimmed yew hedges. The Scottish Tourist Board has awarded has 5 Crowns Deluxe and the hotel won the 1995 Regional Hotel of the Year award and the 1996 Macallan/Taste of Scotland Hotel of the Year Award.

    Ballachullish Hotel was amongst the best known Inns in the Scotland throughout the centuries. This celebrated drovers Inn is now a Baronial hotel and looks across Loch Leven.

    Ballachulish House was built in 1640 and is an historic country estate within view of Ben Nevis, close to the Great Glen, and within a stone's throw of Lochs Linnie and Leven. This restored country house offers en suite rooms with Scottish cuisine in a relaxing atmosphere. The house is noted as the site formally occupied by Captain Campbell who was ordered to carry out the massacre in Glencoe. Ballachulish is also famous for the Appin murder, immortalized by Robert Louis Stevenson's "Kidnapped" - Ballachulish House was once home to the Stuarts of Appin.

    Ballater Holiday Cottages on Royal Deeside are close to the centre of the village. There are two cottages - one is a traditional, granite house sleeping up to six people and the other has a comfortable lounge with open fire, a dining kitchen and one double bedroom. Ballater itself is an attractive village with many interesting shops and restaurants, many of which are "By Appointment" to members of the royal family (who live close by at Balmoral Castle).

    Ballathie House in the breathtaking Perthshire countryside near Kinclaven, was previously renowned in its Edwardian heyday as a sporting estate where eminent visitors and royalty were entertained. It was converted to a hotel almost thirty years ago, yet is still essentially a "private" country house.     Ballathie Sportsman's Lodge is situated in the grounds of Ballathie House Hotel and provides purpose built holiday accommodation for the fisherman and field sport enthusiast. The Lodge makes the ideal base for fishing, shooting, stalking, hunting or simply enjoying the races at nearby Scone Palace. The Sportsman's Lodge offers self-contained rooms for single or double/twin accommodation plus a wealth of facilities with the sportsman in mind.

    Ballat Smithy Cottage was created out of an original smithy workshop and is part of a lovely old house built around 1830 by the Duke of Montrose for his Buchanan estates. It is located near Balfron in Stirlingshire on the A811 Stirling to Balloch road and provides self catering accommodation (Scottish Tourist Board four stars) for up to four people in two bedrooms. Ballat Smithy is on the threshold of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park with lovely views of the Campsie Fells and the surrounding fields and woods.

    Ballencrieff Castle near Haddington and Edinburgh provides accommodation, weddings and private dinners.

    Ballifeary House Hotel in Inverness is a detached Victorian Villa, circa 1876, which has been consistently awarded the "5 Star Guest House" grade by the Scottish Tourist Board and "5 Diamonds" by the Automobile Association. Located in a quiet residential area of Inverness and just a 10 minute picturesque walk to town along the banks of the River Ness.

    Balnellan House bed and breakfast accommodation is within walking distance of the village of Braemar. Balnellan House is a non-Smoking establishment.

    Barncrosh Farm has a range of self-catering holiday cottages (sleeping from 2 to 8 people) dotted around a 250-acre organic farm (with not only cattle, sheep, pigs, ponies, donkeys and goats, but also llama and alpaca, monkeys, wallabies and raccoons...) near Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire, in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway in south west Scotland. Some of the cottages are registered for 'Assisted Wheelchair Access'.

    Baron's Craig Hotel is situated in the seaside village of Rockcliffe on the idyllic Colvend coast, in Dumfries and Galloway, SW Scotland. It stands in wooded countryside overlooking the Solway Firth. Although built as a private home it has been a hotel for over 100 years and has a vast collection of photographs and documents on the hotel and the Colvend coastline which make interesting viewing.

    Bay Cottage is close to the River Dee and the Solway Firth on Ross Bay, seven miles from Kirkcudbright in Dumfries & Galloway. The shoreline is a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the plants and animals there. The cottage has three bedrooms and is an integral part of Ross Farm, a 500 acre establishment which has been in the same family for 4 generations since 1842.

    Bayview self-catering accommodation is in a 3-bedroomed Georgian flatted dwelling house with superb views overlooking the harbour at Portree, Isle of Skye. It sleeps up to six and has a lounge, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Their Web site has tourist information on Skye including shops, restaurants and local sports and activities.

    Bayview, Kentallen is a small white terraced cottage near Appin in Argyll, ten minutes drive from Ballachulish and Oban is 35 minutes away. It sleeps four comfortably though another three can be accommodated in the lounge.

    Beachview Holiday Flats are situated in Lossiemouth on the southern coast of The Moray Firth. There are two well equipped flats each with accommodation for eight people in three bedrooms. The flats have a panoramic view taking in the Moray Golf Course, Covesea Lighthouse, West Beach, the Moray Firth and the Golf Clubhouse.

    Beaumont Holiday Homes offers self-catering accommodation at Portree on the Isle of Skye. Two homes are available on the harbour front with views across Portree Bay to Ben Tianavaig and the Island of Raasay beyond.

    Belladrum Estate has self-catering cottages and lodgings in a romantic setting on an 1100 acre family estate near to the Highland capital of Inverness and Loch Ness. As a special attraction for a romantic retreat for honeymoon couples you can get even get married there in the family chapel, Belladrum Temple (candle-lit only - how's that for romance!).

    The Belhaven Hotel in Glasgow is a lovingly restored Victorian Townhouse, situated on the edge of the City Centre in the heart of the cosmopolitan West End.     Beneagles Hotel, Auchterarder beat off a challenge in court by neighbouring 5-star Gleneagles which claimed that the two names were confusing. But the nine-bedroomed Beneagles is a family-run hotel which specialises in accommodating families, short and weekend breaks and sporting holidays in an area famous for its golfing, fishing, hill-walking and other outdoor pursuits throughout Perthshire.

    Ben Loyal Hotel in Tongue, Sutherland, is an AA and RAC 2 star hotel and has been awarded 3 stars by the Scottish Tourist Board. The restuarant also has awards from the AA and RAC and is 'Ashley Courtney Highly Commended'. There are 11 en-suite bedrooms and the hotel is a good base for fishing, stalking, climbing, birdwatching, hill walking and just pottering around the area.

    Ben Nevis Bunkhouse in Glen Nevis at Achintee, Fort William, has a dormitory that sleeps twenty, divided into three sections. It is part of Ben Nevis Inn a 200-year-old building which provides wines, beers, food, regular live music, spacious beer garden and Internet access. The site has a 360 degree panoramic view taken from outside the inn.

    As its name implies, Ben Nevis View bed and breakfast has plenty of views of Britain's highest mountain, as it is located at Corpach, on the outskirts of Fort William. It is also adjacent to the Caledonian Canal and during the season a steam train passes nearby, twice a day, as an added novelty.

    Blackwood Croft in Strathcarron in beautiful Wester Ross, has self catering holiday accommodation on a working croft with a 2-bedroom purpose-built upper floor apartment in modern croft house, sleeping up to 4 people. It is located in a quiet rural position amidst Highland mountain scenery and hill walking terrain with superb views but within a mile of the nearest shop, post office, and pub.

    Bluefolds Holiday Cottages, Glenlivet are three modern self catering cottages in restored farm building on the hillside facing the Glenlivet distillery on the "Malt Whisky Trail" with views of the Cairngorm mountains.

    BlueSky Youth Hostel is located in the Charing Cross area of Central Glasgow and is a 10-15 minute walk from Queen Street and Central Rail Stations. This low-cost hostel is great for backpackers and tourists. 18 and over only. There is free breakfast, television and e-mail at budget prices.

    The Bobbin Mill, a mile from Comrie, Perthshire, is a conversion of a 200 year old mill on the banks of the River Earn, providing Scottish Tourist Board Four Star self catering accommodation. The building was included in the recently published "Scotland's 100 Best New Buildings". Comrie is an ideal location for exploring Perthshire and as well as the central Lowlands.

    The Bonham Hotel is an award-winning establishment Edinburgh. It has picked up a string of prestigious awards since it opened in 1998, in a quiet area near the centre of the city.     Bonsyde House Hotel is located in Linlithgow, close to the famous Linlithgow Palace. It is a privately run hotel, with good food in a conservatory restaurant using top quality fresh Scottish ingredients, including game, lamb, beef, and seafood, for which Scotland is justly famous.

    Boreland Farm, in the rolling countryside of Dumfriesshire, between Dunscore and Moniaive on a tiny road overlooking the river Cairn, offers traditional bed and breakfast accomodation ata family run, 19th century farmhouse, in 365 acres of pasture. The land is managed to strict organic standards and there is fishing on the river Cairn for both salmon and trout (when in season).

    Boreland of Borgue provides farmhouse Bed ans Breakfast in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway, equidistant from the villages of Borgue, Twynholm and the town of Kirkcudbright. It is family owned and has 3 stars fromthe Scottish Tourist Board and has won a "Scotland Best" award. The previous owners have been traced all the way back to the 13th Century, when the farm was at the centre of the Barony of Borgue and was owned by Princess Devorgilla of the Scots.

    Borvemor Blackhouse, Isle of Harris offers self-catering in the first traditional "Blackhouse" to be built for over a century, using stone, wood and thatch. Borvemor Blackhouse does have running water, electricity and excellent plumbing! The walls are lined with pine throughout. The "Tigh Dubh" is surrounded by machair, croft and sea with the beach just a few minutes walk away.

    Braighebhaile is a traditional stone built croft house in the quiet crofting township of Suledale onn the Isle of Skye. It is available all year round for self catering holiday lets. Situated between Portree and Dunvegan, the cottage is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful Isle of Skye.

    Braigh Uige bed and breakfast, Uig, Isle of Skye is personally run by owners who have lived on Skye all their lives. Open April to September, the house has fine views overlooking Uig Bay, and has three times won a Talisker Quality Award for high quality service and customer care. It is the only accommodation in Uig to be granted the Scottish Tourist Board's Four Star grading.
