"The Gathering" and the march of the clans was the highlight of Homecoming Scotland 2009 in Edinburgh on 25 July 2009. Around 8,000 marchers from over 125 clans, interspersed by seven pipe bands walked up the historic Royal Mile from the Palace of Holyroodhouse, beside Salisbury Crags, to the castle.
