- Lobey Dosser

Lobey Dosser and other Bud Neill characters.

Glasgow is well known for its sense of humour, whether from the "man in the street" or from locally born celebrities like Billy Connolly. Glaswegians appreciate their comedians and Bud Neill (1911-1970) was a well-loved newspaper cartoonist. This statue was erected by public subscription in 1992 on the edge of Kelvingrove Park.

The statue shows some of Bud's characters - Lobey Dosser, Sheriff of Calton Creek (Calton is a district of Glasgow), his trusty steed El Fideldo and resident villain, Rank Bajin, who all appeared in a long-running cartoon strip.
