The Scottish Snippets Newsletter in its original format began in April 1997 and continued in an unbroken series for 591 issues. Although no longer produced in that style, there is now this regular update on the new and updated pages on the Rampant Scotland site including "Scottie's Photo Diary From Scotland".

World Pipe Band Championships 2012

I have to confess that although I have taken photos at the Pipe Band Championships from under an umbrella in pouring rain, it's not my favourite occupation. But last Saturday's event was blessed with glorious sunshine and the main problem was avoiding sunstroke! I did feel sorry for the pipers (especially the local bands who are not used to such conditions) as they went through gallons of water before reaching the arena to perform under the scrutiny of the judges. I got a good spot for photography beside the area where the Grade 1 bands were doing their final tuning up before moving to the arena. I managed to take over 350 pictures in roughly five hours and I've included around 160 of them in a Web-based slide show. I haven't had time to create a YouTube version yet but that will be ready for the next newsletter. Meantime, the Web slide show, which covers all 14 bands in the Grade 1 Final can be found at World Pipe Band Championships 2012 - Slide Show

Scottie's Photo Diary - July 2012

A collection of photos and explanatory text on some of the places visited in July 2012. It includes the RSPB Nature Reserve Loch Leven, Ňran Mór bar and cultural centre, Drumpellier Country Park, North Lanarkshire and my own garden. See Scottie's Photo Diary - July 2012

Scotland's Olympic Medals

Team GB at the 2012 Olympics in London won 65 medals (29 gold 17 silver and 19 bronze thus ranking 3rd in the medals table). But of that total number of medals, Scots, (who account for 8.4% of the UK population) won or contributed to 12 of these. The Royal Mail published sets of stamps with the portraits of all UK gold medal winners - graphics showing the Scots gold medal winners in 2012 ( Andy Murray, Sir Chris Hoy and Katherine Grainger) are illustrated in an updated page listing all Scottish medal winners not just in 2012 but all the way back to 1896. See Scotland's Olympic Medals

Yours aye
