Memory Lane - Dakotas, Boeing 707, the Shuttle and Friday 13

A flight in an aeroplane is fairly routine occurrence nowadays but it was not until commercial aircraft became more accessible after World War II that many of us first had the excitement of travelling on an aircraft for the first time. Flying to another country is now almost routine but in earlier days things were somewhat different - and maybe more exciting! This new section has been started with some of my own memories of first flights that I will probably never forget and range from converted wartime Dakotas via the Shuttle (no - not that one!) and Friday 13! See: Dakotas, Boeing 707, the Shuttle and Friday 13

Memory Lane - Employment Delayed By Five Years After School

Regular contributor David Picken launches another new section and recalls his first "proper" employment being somewhat postponed by the "Cold War" as he was called up to do National Service in the Royal Air Force! See Employment Delayed By Five Years After School

Memory Lane - The Berries

>Alistair Macdonald recalls going off for a couple of weeks of "Berry Picking" in the berry fields at The Kellas, a hamlet in Moray with other school kids. But they were assigned raspberry picking rather than strawberries (where they might have eaten too many of those juicy fruit! See: The Berries

Memory Lane - A Piece

While berry picking, the kids had an hour for lunch when they ate a "piece". Alistair explains what a "piece" was (and still is!). See further down the page at Memory Lane - A Piece

Lighthouse Letters - Walking Among the Orchids

One of the surprises on Shetland is to find so many wild orchids in all colours and sizes. See: Lighthouse Letters - Walking Among the Orchids

Lighthouse Letters - The Window Gardener

If you want to grow flowers in Shetland the safest place to grow them is on the windowsill! See: Lighthouse Letters - The Window Gardener

Next Newsletter

The next newsletter is scheduled for 22 August and will focus on Tam's "Tall Tales" with a selection of current news items from Scotland.

Of course, if you have any Scottish memories which you would like to contribute to "Memory Lane" please send them in to Scottie@RampantScotland.com!

Yours aye
