- Bagpipes and Pipers
The pipes sound terrific in the open air and massed together with accompanying drums.
These pipers were photographed at the annual World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow in 2001.
Many of the pipers, such as this one, turn up year after year at the World Pipe Band Championships.
The piper on the left is one of the earliest known paintings of the Scottish pipes - looking somewhat different from today's instruments. Many pipers dress in a flamboyant fashion, such as the one in the picture on the right. Both illustrations are on display at the Piping Museum in Glasgow.
