Moira's song "Banquo's Walk" refers to this pathway near Fort William lined with beech trees which was a favorite stroll of Banquo (and his ghost). Banquo (a character in Shakespeare's play Macbeth) is said to have lived in Tor Castle, nearby. However, there are some doubts about whether Banquo actually existed. Shakespeare's play suggests that he was the ancestor of the Fitzalan High Stewards of Scotland, from whom the Stewart line of kings were descended - and that is not historically correct.
