- Claypotts Castle, Dundee
The rectangular rooms at the top of the Z-plan tower house give Claypotts an unusual, though not unique, appearance (Burleigh Castle, for example, has a similar rectangular arrangement).
The castle was built by the Strachans in the late 16th century but passed to the Grahams of Claverhouse. John Graham of Claverhouse was known as "Bonnie Dundee" and also as "Bloody Clavers" - depending on whether or not you were a Covenanter.
The lands were forfeited (Graham was on the losing side) and passed to the Douglas Earl of Angus but it later passed to the Homes.
