Scottish Inventions and Discoveries
- Index
With only a relatively small population, Scots have even so been responsible for many inventions over the centuries - something that we take great pride in telling anyone who will listen! There are many well-known Scottish inventors and inventions (like Alexander Graham Bell who was the first to patent the telephone and Alexander Fleming's discovery of penicillin and James Watt (pictured here) whose inventive genius gave a boost to the Industrial Revolution). Some are less well known - though their inventions are an important part of the world today. In addition to being the first to invent or properly develop machines and processes, many Scots were the first to make discoveries in many scientific fields and these will be included in this section.
Although only a limited number of inventions and discoveries are included here at the moment, additions will be made on a regular basis.
