Castle Sween

Castle Sween is one of the oldest castles in Scotland and was established when this part of Scotland was under Norse influence. The name may have derived from an 11th century Dane, Sueno. The MacSweens held the castle to the middle of the 13th century.

The Campbells became keepers of the castle on behalf of the crown in 1481. It is now administered by Historic Scotland.
