- Taymouth Castle, Perthshire
You won't find Taymouth Castle at the mouth of the Tay as it enters the north sea. Instead, it is in the heart of Perthshire, on the banks of the river Tay not far from where it leaves Loch Tay.
Taymouth was built as a mansion between 1801 and 1842 though it does incorporate a 16th century tower house. It was one of the many properties owned by the Campbells - in this case, the Campbells of Breadalbane.
In the 20th century it became a hotel and then a school for American children in Europe. Part of the building is currently used as a club house for the golf course on the estate.
