- Lincoln Memorial
A monument to the American President, Abraham Lincoln, was erected in the Old Calton Cemetery in Edinburgh 1893. It is said to be the first monument outside of the USA to the American president.
It was built in memory of the Scottish soldiers who fought in the American Civil war. It carries a quotation from Lincoln: "To preserve the jewel of liberty in the framework of freedom".
The mausoleum behind the statue is for the philosopher David Hume.
