- Scandic Crown Hotel
The High Street of Edinburgh (part of the Royal Mile which runs from the castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse) is full of historic buildings. But from time to time it is necessary to put up a new structure - in the case of the Scandic Crown there had been an ugly gap site for many years.
Built in 1989, this international hotel incorporates a "round tower" at the corner, a feature of many Scottish castles. The main entrance has similarities to the many Edinburgh "closes" or alleys along the length of the High Street.
