Winds Blow Bridge's Opening Date Back Six Months

Artist's Impression of new Queensferry Crossing on the left and other Forth Bridges

The Queensferry Crossing across the Firth of Forth was scheduled to be completed by December this year but that target has been missed . The new £1.35bn road bridge between West Lothian and Fife will now open in May 2017, six months later than originally planned.

Keith Brown, the cabinet secretary for the economy, said the delay had been caused by "adverse weather conditions" in April and May.

In a statement to the Holyrood Parliament Mr Brown said that the delay was a "very recent development" caused by high winds earlier this year.

The artist's impression here is from the north of the estuary and shows the new crossing on the right and the present road bridge on the left).
