A Selection of Scottish Poetry
- Index of Poems by Walter Wingate

Wild Flowers

Watercolour of Wild Roses from a manuscript album of Walter Wingate's poems.

Introduction

Generations of Scottish school children have learned the words of some of Walter Wingate's poetry - especially his "The Sair Finger". It was natural, therefore, that some of his poems should be included in the Selection of Scottish Poetry on this Scottish Culture Web Site. Shortly after it was launched, I was contacted by Walter Wingate's grand-daughter, Nan Engen. She has kindly sent me a number of his poems (some of which may not have been published before) and scans of some of his manuscripts which are illustrated with his watercolours. With her permission, some of these are reproduced here. It is hoped to be able to add to this collection of works by this well loved Scottish poet.

Nan has written a special introduction to this collection which you can read here.

On a separate page you will also find a Biography of Walter Wingate.
