Aberdeen councillors voted by 22-21 to continue with the development of the site created by the demolition of the former St Nicholas House council headquarters.

The project (artist's impression on the left) includes plans for a hotels, shops, offices and restaurants.

Opponents argued that the development would block the view of historic Marischal College (seen on the right) and Provost Skene House. St Nicholas House was understandably described by many as a "grotesque monster" and "the "biggest eyesore in Aberdeen." so hopefully the new development will at least be an improvement?
